Stegenga + PARTNERS was selected to provide complete architectural services for a new 50,176-square-foot home health care and rehabilitation facility in Lawrenceville, Georgia for MeSun Health Services. The facility was designed to meet the unique cultural needs of the community of Southeast Asians residing in Gwinnett County and the surrounding areas. The design process focused on the specific needs of the target community in adding an aesthetic appeal reflective of the Southeast Asian heritage.
The architect approached the project with a concept that would ensure the cultural balance in both function and design: constructed of structural steel, emphasizing the Asian heritage by also using traditional materials such as brick, concrete, metal roof, and incorporating a grand porte cochère with Asian-influenced lighting.
A modern Korean interior design celebrates the connection with nature by incorporating natural stone elements, rich wood paneling, and two-story spaces with large windows, allowing for natural lighting throughout. Functional comfort is provided with wood furniture and Asian interior decorating and artwork to provide a distinct and elegant interior which captures the “true home” for many residents in this area. A customized kitchen was also designed in order to prepare authentic Asian food for the residents.
Upon entering, patients are greeted with a warm welcome, and are given the opportunity to check in at the reception desk and relax in the parlor where the large grand piano is played on special occasions. In addition, on the first floor, this facility will accommodate large public areas, physical therapy, clinical, support, and administrative spaces, 15 private-patient rooms, 15 semi-private patient rooms, and two flex-patient rooms. The second floor accommodates 17 private-patient rooms, 16 semi-private patient rooms, four flex-patient rooms, and clinical, support, and activity spaces.
MeSun Health Services provides comprehensive, compassionate care over the entire spectrum of medical treatment, and is a continuing care center integral to our community.
